SNOW FLAKES .. — Freedom Is Just Another Word…

Escape from Idolatry

In my previous posting here I described America’s new religion (idol): Comforts, ease, entertainment. In light of the worldview that we are just highly evolved germs whose existence is meaningless, it only makes sense in such a hopeless world, doomed within a decade by the presence of humans to climate extinction, to just “eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.” Given over to their basest desires, humans tend to simply self-destruct, taking the whole civilization along with them. Re-read Romans chapter one, which describes the results of what theologians call reprobation – God simply takes His hands off that person’s life and abandons them to their own self-destruction.

Once handed over to one’s own desires, there is no possibility of redemption or salvation.

Those who have not been handed over to our own self-destruction still have to live in a world run by the reprobate, but we don’t need to suffer their fate! The world may suffer ruin all around us, but we were created for better things. We are being prepared in this world for the world to come – a new heavens and new Earth. That is our inheritance if we forsake this fallen world and it’s pursuits to follow Christ, who lived, died, and rose from death to rescue His followers from the fate of the reprobate.

His enemies face not only self-destruction, but the just wrath of their holy and righteous Creator. Their punishment serves God’s purpose of demonstrating His character of justice and holiness. Those redeemed by Christ demonstrate His characteristics of tender mercy and love towards undeserving and helplessly sinful creatures made in His image, but fallen and corrupted by sin. Both groups, in the end, glorify God and reveal His nature and character.

Escape from the destiny of the reprobate world is possible only for those who depend on Christ as a little child depends on his or her parents to do for them what they cannot do for themselves. No sinner can stop sinning and be forgiven and cleansed by his own efforts. We cannot act on our own, we must be acted upon by the only One who is capable of raising a dead spirit to life. Christ did not come to Earth, live a perfect, sinless life in our stead, die to take the punishment for our sins, and be raised again, merely to make it possible for people to be saved. Rather Christ actually and fully accomplished the redemption of His own, and His Holy Spirit applies Christ’s work to believers. Supernaturally. It’s not in our own capability as fallen sinners, dead in sin, to believe in Him, much less to repent our sins and live for Him. He cannot fail to fully and eternally save those that were chosen in Him to become His inheritance and to inhabit the new heaven and earth to come.

The escape for us is not an escape from this crazy, reprobate world, but escape in this crazy reprobate world. Living in and for Christ frees us not only from self-destruction, but also the wrath of Holy God that is stored up for the reprobate.

The wrath of God that is due us was borne by God’s own Son in our place on the Cross. The everlasting life offered in the gospel is for those who were raised in Him and with Him. The righteousness that we could never achieve was achieved for us by His sinless life, and is credited to those who love and follow Him, enabled by His Spirit. This the Scripture calls imputation, which means “reckoning.”

Adam’s sin and the guilt of his rebellion imputed to his progeny.

My sin and guilt imputed to Christ, and borne by Him in my place.

Christ’s righteousness imputed to me the moment I first believed on Him.

In Him I am as righteous before the judgement throne of God as His own Son is! And my inheritance is the same as His: Eternal life and a place in the world to come, free of sin and it’s corruption and consequences, free to live as we were meant to live, joyfully in His service and for His glory. Call upon God to do what only He can do. Ask for Him to give you faith and repentance to live His way and for His glory, with the promise of everlasting life to come, spared from the fate of fallen humanity. This is escape from idolatry!

America’s New Idols: Ease and Comforts

Change requires effort. Sometimes lots of hard, prolonged effort, even sacrifice. We have every reason to want change in America, since the last two years have brought real inflation up at 480 percent (don’t gimme that 8.5% bullcrap, factor in real costs of things like groceries and fuel and it’s 480%), Supply chain breakdowns while our Secretary of Transportation takes a 4-month “paternity” leave, shortages of vital supplies including food and medicines, an invasion of un-vetted hordes across our Southern border, disease outbreaks (many coming from the aforementioned un-vetted hordes), and a new threat of nuclear war on two fronts.

Yet when given the opportunity to bring some meaningful change or at least to stop or slow down the insanity, Americans voted to maintain the status quo, even as far as electing a Senator in Pennsylvania who can’t process or express ideas, and a state legislator – also in Pennsylvania – who died a month before the election! Some states are still counting votes days later because in our modern age of advanced technology, somehow we can’t manage to count votes nearly as well as we could using paper ballots. There are close races between constitutional patriots and big-government socialists where the choice should be crystal clear and obvious. Yet voters, largely far more “educated” than in previous generations, find it difficult to decide between them.

I have a theory to explain America’s national suicide: Idolatry. We’re talking Romans chapter one kinda stuff here, so let me just quote it:

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them, for God has made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made*, so that they are without excuse. For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures (Romans 1:18-23, New American Standard Bible, emphasis mine).

We chose to believe what we wanted to believe about reality in spite of science, because if there’s a God and He is righteous, then His creatures must answer to Him for their lives. But today’s “science” tells us that gender is merely a social construct, that males can get pregnant, that humans can effect and change the global climate, that the fruit of a woman’s womb is not human, that evil is good and good is evil. And we want to believe it, because it provides us with “evidence” to counter what our eyes see, what our ears hear, and what our own experience and the light of nature clearly demonstrate. There is no God, so we have nothing to answer to Him for.

The result of such idolatry is found in following few verses of Romans 1:

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them. For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also them men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind… (Romans 1:24-28, NASB).

We worship pleasure, physical comforts, ease, and the pursuit of our passions and lust. The result is being given over to depravity in our minds. And depraved minds vote for further depravity when given a choice in matters of government. Instead of government functioning to restrain and punish evil and protect the rights of a free people to do justly and worship God as were designed to do, we rely on government to suppress the knowledge of God and leave us “free” to debase ourselves further. The result can only be death and the multiplied wrath of a Holy God against us for our rebellion.

There is a way of escape, but only few ever find it. Only few even really want to find it. Because change requires effort. Sometimes even lots of prolonged effort, even sacrifice. More so now than at any time in human history so far, now that the world has adopted false “science” and used government “education” as a basis for validating it.

What is that way of escape? Look for that in the next thrilling episode of Robin’s Rants and Raves!

An Experienced Linux User’s Review of Linux Lite

[catergory Desktop Linux]

Admittedly not a fan of “newbie-friendly” Linux distros like I am, this respected reviewer had such a bad experience with the newest version of Linux Lite that his friends came close to having an “intervention” for him to preserve his sanity! Read about my friend Renard’s close call here.

I have described Linux Lite in the past as “Xubuntu done right” and lauded it’s efforts to attract users from Windows as being even better than Linux Mint’s, because of the very cool tool box it has, always being improved upon and expanded. I’m still a fan of “newbie-friendly” desktop Linux distributions like Linux Lite, but definitely not a fan of Google’s ecosystem, nor of Ubuntu’s weird turn to snaps as default packaging, it’s “ads” appearing in the terminal, and some other corporate decisions that put it on par with Microsoft and Apple in terms of commercial and proprietary policies.

Most of the Linux Lite users who were around when I first discovered Linux Lite and became a fan have moved on to Debian-based Linux OSes like MX-Linux (awesomeness on steroids) or even Bunsen Labs (Debian Openbox, the “heir of Crunchbang Linux”). I think I’m the only one among that group who went off to the Slackware universe with SalixOS. Among these, MX-Linux is the only one I would consider “newbie-friendly.” But one thing they all have in common is that they’re not based and built on Ubuntu. Most of the most popular “newbie-friendly” distros like Linux Mint, Zorin, ElelmentaryOS, and Pop!OS are Ubuntu-based, and most of them have disabled snap packaging and some of the other objectionable stuff from upstream Ubuntu.

But if you want Firefox in Linux Lite and don’t want to use a PPA (or don’t know how), Linux Lite offers Firefox as a snap package. Ewww. No thanks!

I remain a (I even made a userbar for their forum!), but my copy is so highly modified from the defaults that I only recommend my own modified version of it for newbies – and that just for the cool tools it offers. It’s the version of Linux Lite that I copy and share with others. Snaps disabled, Brave browser or Seamonkey instead of Google Spyware’s Bovine Excrement Browser, etc. The last decent version of Linux Lite was 5.8 in my opinion.

Danged if You Do, Danged if You Don’t

Maybe I’m finally getting a sense of what it’s like for Linux developers, putting up with criticism from people like me who really have no clue about what goes into developing an operating system or software.

“This distro has too many PPAs!” I complained both here in my blog and the distro’s forum.

The next release, the distro had moved stuff into it’s own repository and had no PPAs. Very cool! They listened!

Now the latest version of the distro offers Google Chrome as it’s default browser. My reaction: “WHAT!? Google is EVIL! Forget this, I’m outta here!” But that particular distro is for novice users, most either coming from Windows or altogether new to computing. Chrome is probably a good choice for them, I guess, but – it’s effing EVIL. So the developer offers a way to get Firefox instead, but it installs snapd and comes as a snap package! My reaction: “Nooooo, snapd is EVIL! You should offer a PPA instead!”

Danged if he does, danged if he doesn’t. See what I mean?

I hate it when my hypocrisy shows up so obviously for the whole world to see. Criticism of a free OS coming from a clueless technophobe. So I apologized publicly on the forum, and now here on the blog.

I know I’m not unique or alone in such bad behavior, but maybe my bad example can be helpful to some others who, like me, have been quick to criticize when they really don’t know the work they’re finding fault with. Let’s give developers a break, and make your findings – good and bad – known privately and politely as a tester if you want to help make it better.

Testing Linux Lite 6.2 Release Candidate

Testing the Linux-Lite 6.2 release candidate today. First thing of course, will be to dump the stupid default browser (Google Chrome) for an old favorite (Brave, for now). Then my usual desktop customizing and off to the races.

Ubuntu-based, but snapd is disabled, thankfully, as they are in Linux Mint and some other Ubuntu derivatives. Lite Tweaks is a favorite feature of mine on this lightweight, beginner-friendly Linux distro. Point-and-click simplicity to maintain, clean, and update the OS.

It’s a little bit buggy right now, probably not for those who want a ready-out-of-the-box experience. The bottom panel disappeared when I installed my alternate browser and changed the panel to reflect the replacement browser. Once restored, it got to blinking on and off between a black background and my custom choice (transparent). A reboot fixed it. A little bit weird, but theme changes in almost every distro have their little temporary quirks. It’s FAST though! Very responsive, even on my modest li’l ‘puter.

IF YOU WANT FIREFOX, DO NOT INSTALL IT USING LITE SOFTWARE unless you’re okay with snap packaging (the default in Ubuntu, disabled in Linux Lite). Use the Mozilla PPA instead. This warning is visible in Lite Software if you select Firefox from Lite Software. But if you dislike or are the least bit hesitant about snapd, you have other options, external to Linux Lite.

Other than those minor blips, Linux Lite 6.2 (RC1) runs nimbly and quick. Added Z-RAM (from Lite Tweaks) and Preload to speed things up even more. After their first runs, apps load and run at surprising speed for such an old box.

Why the ミ★ Confederate Space Force ★彡 Uses Linux

On my recommendation, the Confederate Space Force has officially adopted Linux for use in all of our starships, satellites, and ground support.

    • Every member of even the Space Force is above all, a rifleman. The last thing we want is to unnecessarily complicate things for even the least technically sophisticated soldier in our armed forces, whether in the infantry, artillery, cavalry, navy, air force, or space force. The primary reason for using Linux is to simplify the user interface and experience of even the most advanced technology. Linux is much simpler and easier to use and maintain than Windows® or Mac.
    • For years the armed forces have been vulnerable to Yankee influence and sabotage through the use of proprietary computer operating systems which are susceptible to viruses and other malware. Linux is far less susceptible to malware.
    • Most software available for Linux is free of cost to the user, saving the Confederacy zillions of dollars. No license fees and none of that other Yankee bovine excrement that drives up expenses to benefit our enemy.

Whether for military use or otherwise, Linux beats the living hell out of the major alternative operating systems available.

If you have thought about enlisting in the Confederate Space Force but have assumed that the technology must be beyond your ability or comfort level as an “ordinary user” of computers, rest assured: Linux makes it easy on even the most technophobic among us (including myself).

I Got Promoted…

…to Lieutenant Commander in the Confederate Space Force! My first command was on our latest away mission while the Captain was assigned to a spy mission where he was able to document this alien life form working for the Democratic Party:

Alien trying to interpret symbols

In an art museum, this well-disguised life form was trying to interpret symbols on a fire suppression access panel. Obviously an alien, ignoring the existing cultural wealth of the museum in order to undermine the safety of visitors.

In the meantime I was tasked with conducting battle drills on the CSS General Lee (pictured below). Not so much to sharpen the crew’s fine skills as to familiarize me with my new ship and the protocol I am expected to follow as First Officer (still a sidekick, dontchya know).

CSS General Lee

It’s a great honor and a great challenge! More later as things develop and as public release allows.
